This Year's Model Updates:

Only minor changes are made to Chevrolet's bread-and-butter Silverado pickup for 2002. Some options packages have been revamped for easier ordering and all extended-cab models now come standard with a four-speed automatic transmission, with the manual no longer available.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended cab models, strong V8 engines, available composite bed, disc brakes at all four corners, optional traction control.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, sketchy build quality.

It doesnt have many miles, so quality hasnt been tested very much, but my 1998 Monte Carlo is the best vahicle Ive ever had. Even better than the 2 Toyotas I had. The Tundra was too narrow for a person with long legs and the styling of the F150 didnt do anything for me. Only time will tell how well the truck holds up.

110% do it all truck no matter weather or conditions, small load or large, with no worries. All around truck. Comfort. Hard worker. If you want a gentle beast, why would anyone throw away their money on any other?

My 2002 Silverado has been an outstanding truck. I just bought a 6000 LB trailer and it pulls it with ease, however rather slow on big hills and gas mileage is around 10 MPG but that was to be expected. My lease is now up and have decided to buy out the lease.

  • The Truck Id Always Wanted - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I had always loved short box extended cab Chevys. Upon seeing the redesign for 03 I had to run out and pick up an 02 (dont care for the Batmobile nose). Has simply been the best truck Ive ever owned. The 5.3L has excellent power and the cab is quiet and comfortable. Sensible driving returns about 16-17mpg in town and can get 20mpg highway if I keep my foot out of it, which can be difficult since its a lot of fun to jump on, occasionally.

  • Best Truck Ive Ever Driven! - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Been driving pickups since the mid-70s-this is the best truck Ive ever owned! This is a 2002 that I just bought 7/05 with 56K on it. Rides nice and is very quiet. Lots of conveniences. Getting around 17 mph highway with the 5.3 liter. Rear seats have reasonable amount of leg room and comfort too.

  • 2002 ls ext cab - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I think the response of the engine has been quite good. Gas mileage has been surprising, the 4.3 got nearly 20 mpg in town, the new 5.3 gets 17.5 in town and close to 20 on the highway. This is conservative driving, with no load. Ride is somewhat less than expected, vibration is common, I think due to the tires originally supplied on the vehicle. (General 660s) Dealer replaced all four in the first 200 miles, and for the most part, that fixed the problem, however the vibration is returning. I will not get another General Tire. Comfort in the cab is great, radio, a/c all work well.
